Proving Compliance, Reducing Business Risk
As a UK manufacturer of insulated glass units, it is a mandatory requirement for your business to meet the requirements of BS EN 1279.
As part of your ongoing commitment to the standard, you should already prepare test units that are sent to your third-party test house on an annual basis to carry out the periodic testing described in BS EN 1279-6.
IGU Manufacturers
The million-dollar question is, does every IGU that leaves your factory receive the same care and attention as your annual test units?
The million-dollar question is: does every IGU that leaves your factory receive the same care and attention as your annual test units? How often are your units tested for gas concentration before they leave site? Are you confident that every unit that goes out of the door has the required 90% (+10%, -5%) argon gas concentration in order to comply with the requirements of t BS EN 1279.
If the answer to any of these questions is no, you could be putting your business at risk.
Our Process
IGU Testing Service
Our IGU manufacturer service works on an annual subscription model, with monthly visits to your premises to test your insulated glass units and help support you in compliance with BS EN 1279. Our goal is to support and assist your production, in order to give you the confidence in your product, and to help ensure the process works every time.
We use a highly accurate state of the art Sparklike testing technology to monitor the levels of argon gas within your manufactured sealed units. It’s a non-destructive test, so it doesn’t spoil any units. Instead, it uses laser technology to accurately measure the percentage of argon gas within the unit in both double and triple glazed units. Unlike the Sparklike Handheld test machine the Sparklike Lazer machine can measure through Low E coatings, is capable of measuring both double and triple glazed units, it can measure the cavity width, glass thickness giving an overall precise measurement for all units big or small.
Testing the performance of IGUs before they leave your manufacturing facility is the safest and most effective way to protect your business. Any problems that are highlighted can be rectified before the products enter the market, giving you peace of mind and reducing both the risk of non-compliance and financial liability for your business.
We test up to 50 IGU’s per visit
With varying width and height ratios to ensure that all aspects of your everyday manufacturing are tested. We can also measure triple glazing, laminated glass and different glass thicknesses if requested.
Compliant to BS EN 1279 standards.
Once the results are in, we can work with your team to ensure any problems are addressed, ensuring that your day-to-day manufacturing operations are compliant with the BS EN 1279 standards.

Why Choose Us
What’s Changed?
Whilst the BS EN 1279 standard itself hasn’t changed since the last revision in 2018 (it is currently undergoing the required 5 year revision) , the way construction products like IGUs are being monitored has changed significantly.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is the enforcement authority for construction products, working closely with The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Born from the recommendations of Dame Judith Hackitt’s ‘Building a Safer Future’ report, the OPSS’s mission is to protect people and places from ‘product-related harm’, ensuring high levels of compliance and regulatory awareness amongst manufacturers.
They have already been in action in the fenestration sector, with unannounced visits to all 28 UK manufacturers of Heat Soaked Thermally Toughened Glass for their Sector Regulatory Report.
Crucially, the OPSS has the resources and the power to stop businesses manufacturing products if they cannot demonstrate compliance, provide evidence of ongoing product testing and produce valid Declarations of Performance.
